Welcome to the official home of True Tales from the Pink & Blue Trenches, a weekly series hosted by The Noise of Boys and Home on Deranged. It’s all about life raising two rambunctious boys. And life raising two boisterous girls. What’s the difference? That’s what we’re going to find out together!
Every Thursday of the month, Jodi and I will share our thoughts on a particular topic, hers from the point of view of raising boys, and mine from the point of view of raising girls. Maybe we’ll find out we have a lot in common, or we may discover the differences are just too funny not to write about.
Join us on this journey through motherhood and the chaotic lives we lead with the beautiful girls and boys in our lives.
MEET THE WRITERS
Jodi, creator of The Noise of Boys, began blogging in March 2013 as a much needed creative mommy project. She learned about this addictive hobby through a blogger friend, finally opting to start her own blog because of a bet and a dare. She focuses on family friendly reviews and giveaways, but her boys are her total inspiration to blog. As she said, “I love sharing the funny moments and it is a chance to also record it!”
Born and raised in Massachusetts, Jodi has lived in Central Iowa since 2000. Three years later, she married Chuck, a Graphic Artist, and the couple now have sons Hayden, 3, and Henry, 1. There’s also a dog named Sydney and a cat named Jinx.

I’m Melissa, owner of Home on Deranged, and I spent my professional career in newspapers and nonprofit management, and now I’m mumbling through the mayhem of marriage to a husband 13 years my junior, and motherhood to two rambunctious girls, living our big little life in small town Texas. I like to pretend like I know what I’m doing as I sort through the mysteries of social media, dye jobs and the absurdity of life in a small town, always with the emphasis on humor and love.
Our family consists of my husband, Thomas, a freelance graphic designer; Annie, age 2 1/2; Leelou, 16 months; and our two black Labs, Midnight and Buddy.
