I participated in an Influencer Activation on behalf of Influence Central for Doctor On Demand. I received a free trial coupon code to facilitate my review as well as a promotional item to thank me for my participation.
Here’s the thing about winter: it’s awesome to have colder temperatures and even a little snow to play in. It’s not so awesome to have nonstop colds and allergies sending you to the doctor’s office every other week. I recently was invited to try out Doctor on Demand, and my view of healthcare has changed. Using the latest technology to get our family diagnosed in our own home has made life so much easier.

Bundling up sick people in cold winter weather and taking them to the doctor’s office to hang out with more sick people is not fun. Don’t get me wrong; I LOVE our family physician. He’s tender and amazing. But…he’s also very popular, which means we sometimes have to wait. And wait. And wait.
Rather than going to the ER or driving 20 miles out of town to the urgent care place, I used Doctor on Demand, a new app that makes house calls a reality again. It’s a healthcare service through your smartphone, tablet, laptop or desktop. The service covers all the common symptoms and ailments like cough, cold, flu and allergy, or UTI, rashes, cough, diarrhea and vomiting, and even eye conditions using the Video Visit technology.
If you’ve got another sinus infection, but you don’t want to spend 2+ hours in the doctor’s office to get the same prescription you’ve gotten for years, then Doctor on Demand is for you. They cover adults and kids. They offer lactation consults for new moms and babies. And one of the greatest offerings for this depression-prone gal is the psychology consults.
What’s the process?
Since I wasn’t sure which device I would be most comfortable using, I actually downloaded the free app on my Android phone, my iPad and on my desktop, while adding it to Thomas’ laptop as well. While it was easier to sit at the desktop to fill out the various forms, it was easier to sit on the couch for the actual session.
Once downloaded, you provide contact information and input whether the visit is for you, your child or spouse. You describe your symptoms via text, how long you’ve had them, any medicines you’re taking and any allergies. Just like at the doctor’s office, you fill out the symptoms checklist and current medical conditions forms. All the standard stuff that takes around 15 minutes. You also select your preferred pharmacy so any prescriptions can be sent. Enter payment information, and you’re ready.
At this point, you can either be immediately connected with a doctor OR you can schedule an appointment. This is one of my favorite features. Now that I’ve tried the psychology portion, I can go online and schedule my appointment dates and times with the doctor of my choice. Also, if I get a call from preschool that one of the girls is sick, I can go online, set up an appointment for an hour later and be ready to go.
As for me, it’s no secret I struggle with depression. During my Doctor on Demand session, I visited with a psychologist that I think is going to be a good fit for me. They charge $50 for 25 minutes and $95 for 50 minutes, a very reasonable charge.
What’s the result?
Thomas was able to show the pressure points he’s feeling with his sinus infection. The doctor he talked with asked him several questions and prescribed a daily nose spray to reduce inflammation. The doctor took the time to understand that this is a chronic condition for Thomas, which reassured us both. Medical visits are $40 for a 15 minute session. Although it’s not currently covered by insurance, that’s still far less than we pay for a normal doctor’s visit. And there’s no hidden fees. You know going in what the price will be.
It’s really that easy. You can either schedule an appointment – including followups with your favorite doctor(s) – or take an immediate opening. You make it fit your schedule, which means Doctor on Demand works for anyone. No insurance is needed, and your insurance company won’t be contacted.
